Silver award for Barry Uniting Church
Barry Uniting Church has recently achieved a Silver Eco Church Award which demonstrates the church’s commitment to caring for the planet.
Eco Church is an interdenominational, national, environmental award scheme for churches across England and Wales. run by A Rocha. Participating churches are assessed on their care for the world in their worship and teaching, in how they look after their buildings and land, how they engage with their local community and global campaigning and the personal lifestyles of their congregation, progressing from bronze to silver, then gold award level.
Barry Uniting Church has recently celebrated the formal opening of its new building, The Bridge Between Centre, which has been developed with sustainability at its heart. The church also has a community garden and now hosts a wide range of community activities in its new premises.
Rev Catherine Brobbey from Barry Uniting Church said:
‘The members and friends of Barry Uniting Church recognise their responsibility in caring for the earth, our common home. They have worked hard over many years to build a church and community centre which meet the highest environmental standards in terms of design, construction and sustainability. Their ongoing development of a wildlife garden at the heart of the Waterfront is a further expression of their care for creation and their desire to make a positive, life-enhancing contribution to the local community. The silver Eco-Church award is a recognition of their efforts and something to really celebrate – before going for gold!’
